Who we are
Type & Hand is an independent Canadian editorial site that reviews and compares lettering supplies, drawing tablets and fountain pens. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit, and how we use it.
Information we collect
We do not require accounts and we do not sell products directly, so we never ask for payment details. The site collects only: comments you choose to leave (name, email address and comment text), messages you send through the contact form, and standard technical data every website receives (IP address, browser type, pages visited).
Analytics and cookies
We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which articles are useful. Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to identify individual visitors. Cookies are limited to what the site needs to function (for example, remembering that you have already submitted a comment). You can block cookies in your browser without losing access to any content.
Affiliate links
Articles contain affiliate links to retailers. When you click one, the retailer may set its own cookies and pays us a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Details are on our Affiliate Disclosure page. We have no access to any personal or payment information you share with a retailer.
Comments
When you leave a comment, the name you enter is shown publicly next to it; your email address is stored but never published. An anonymized string created from your email address may be provided to an avatar service to check whether you are using it.
How long we keep data
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognized. Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to reply. Technical logs rotate automatically.
Your rights
You can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, or ask that we erase it, at any time. This does not include data we must keep for administrative, legal or security purposes. Contact us through the contact page and we will respond promptly.
